The policy on language acquisition at Westfield aims to build on past successes of language learning in the school. The opportunity arises for us to broaden the concept of European language and culture by increased differentiation between our students according to their level and needs.
All students are given the opportunity to pursue an enjoyable, stimulating and rewarding programme, which develops oral, aural, reading and written skills in the appropriate language.
At Key Stage 2, we follow a countywide core curriculum for Primary French and have been awarded the prestigious European Languages Label for our work with Year 4 to 5 transition. All years have the opportunity to correspond with a class in France and we have a partner school in Brittany with which we are strengthening links.
