Subjects: Design Technology and Art
The art department is led by a specialist teacher, using well equipped modern rooms. Pupils learn through a wide range of practical but fun activities including drawing, painting, collage and three-dimensional work.
Art clubs are run for pupils who are interested in continuing to develop their artistic skills.
This subject includes Resistant Materials (RM), Food Technology, Textiles and Graphic Design (ICT).
Pupils are taught in large, purpose-built working areas using specialist tools. The course is oriented towards problem solving within a design framework using a variety of materials and equipment.
RM is taught in a fully equipped workshop; in Textiles pupils learn to sew using hand and machine techniques and for Food pupils learn to cook a variety of foods and learn about healthy living, good diets, preparing food and taste-testing. We aim to help pupils to leave Westfield being able to prepare and cook a complete meal.
